Langmeil Winery: Sparkling Shiraz, N.V.

Langmeil Winery: Sparkling Shiraz, N.V.

Serious Barossa Wines, founded in 1996 by three friends, Chris Bitter, Carl Lindner and Richard Lindner – all fourth generation Barossans.Although the previous Winery Bernkastel Wines closed down in 1988, and it lay derelict and abandoned, the property has undergone massive investment and restoration to bring the Winery back to its glory days. Rich and unique qualities, such as vinification of individual vineyard parcels, minimal handling and gentle filtration overseen by chief winemaker Paul Lindner ensure supreme quality with balanced wines with subtle complexities, that drink well now but show their cellaring potential. The majority of the fruit for Langneil comes from old, ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines throughout the Barossa region. Langmeil is named after the original village where it is located, believes they have one of the oldest Shiraz vineyards in Australia and probably the World. The vineyard known as Freedom is 3.50 acres and was planted in 1843 by Christian Auricht, an immigrant from Hamburg who settled in the area, and the Freedom Shiraz is as part of Australia’s Wine heritage as it is a World class wine in its own right.Langmeil is a 5 star rated Winery by James Halliday 2006/2007/2008, its team is driven by quality and its reputation puts it in the first eleven with fine innings each vintage dedicated to the spirit and determination of the first settlers.
